The EMBA Experience
Before you start
To strengthen your quantitative, accounting and economics skills before the program starts, you are provided with specially designed preparatory online tutorials. Before classes start, you are also encouraged to fine-tune your spreadsheet and word-processing skills.
Your support network
Whether your first contact with the Kellogg-Schulich Executive MBA program is a phone call to the EMBA office, attendance at an Information Session or a Pre-Application Interview, you will quickly appreciate the importance of the EMBA's support staff. Highly trained, friendly and efficient, this network of professionals at Schulich, Kellogg and Kellogg's international partner schools is central to the success of your EMBA experience. They are there to listen, offer advice and help you maintain a healthy work-family balance. They also offer technical support and facilitate the effective functioning of EMBA study teams.
The Schulich Live-In Week
The Schulich Live-In Week brings you and fellow classmates together for the first time. It's an action-packed seven days complete with ice-breaking exercises, team-building, two academic courses, a technical orientation and networking opportunities. At week's end, you and your partner are invited to an official "EMBA Welcome Dinner."
Beyond the classroom
The EMBA experience transcends the classroom. Mealtimes, class breaks, social events and other activities offer participants a chance to network and learn about other professions and corporate cultures.
The family connection
The successful completion of an EMBA is "a family affair." Your partner (spouse or significant other) is a critical member of the support system that allows you to have a satisfying, successful program experience. In recognition of their role, EMBA partners are invited to events throughout the program. One of the most popular is the Partners Event, which includes a simulated class taught by an EMBA faculty member and team exercises.
Your classroom experience
Classroom learning is at the heart of the Kellogg-Schulich EMBA experience. Every second weekend, both Kellogg and Schulich faculty draw on their extensive consulting experience to complement formal research findings and bring you the theoretical and applied sides of management.
Your performance
Progress in the EMBA is measured by the extent to which you can demonstrate mastery of the skills and knowledge each course requires. The Kellogg-Schulich EMBA uses a range of approaches to grading. In general, 50 per cent of your work will be evaluated on an individual basis and 50 per cent on a group basis. Assignments include exams, projects, case studies and simulations.
EMBA study teams
Central to the Kellogg-Schulich EMBA is working in different study teams. After careful consideration of skills, backgrounds, experience and strengths, the EMBA program finalizes the formation of these five- to seven-member groups. This attention to diversity ensures that each team can adopt a multifaceted approach to decision-making. Throughout the Live-In Week, faculty and staff lead you and your group through numerous team-building exercises and assignments. Then, for the remainder of your Toronto-based EMBA classes, you and your study team have access to a professional team facilitator.
Career Management
You will have access to the following suite of career management resources: one-on-one executive coaching to improve your leadership skills; a wide array of self-assessment tools to develop self awareness and identify areas for growth; and career management workshops and events designed to help you be strategic as you navigate your career path.
